The expression of art in my life has allowed me to invent and play at connections between things, especially the connection between the head, hand and eye. I generally draw from life (figures, landscape, still life) as a way to loosen up in the same way a dancer might stretch to recall muscle memory before attempting a more difficult move. Sometimes these gestures are worked into paintings (watercolor, acrylic or oil); at other times, the paintings begin with their own spontaneous marks.
The Braddock community (especially Unsmoke Systems) is a place for me to re-enter the artmaking phase of my life after a haitus to raise children (still) and take care of ailing parents (yet). The creative energy of such a place allows for a variety of voices, of which I am one.
Going to a studio again to make stuff is a bit like rappeling, where you are essentially jumping off a cliff backwards with a rope (held by, hopefully, someone you trust) and a lot of faith. With toes on the edge, I am taking that leap in order to climb again.
