The constant experience of urban decay and physical deterioration is the catalyst for these artist explorations of Braddock Pa. The materials, objects and structures left behind help to organize information creating beauty in the aspects of deterioration that are usually looked on as unsightly. The environment causes the decay that surrounds us, and the results are left for the artist’s investigation. The deteriorated surroundings hold moments that are usually overlooked by the public and show the remnants of how man-made objects interfere with the natural world. The significance of these structures and the objects they hold are much more relevant to how people should move forward and have productive insight into the world around them.

Justin Coleman is graduate of R.I.S.D. and ceramic artist from Pittsburgh who works in Braddock. Justin is exploring the permanence and place of functional ceramic objects found in houses in Braddock.

Shawn Gilheeney has his B.F.A. in Printmaking from Rhode Island College and works in Providence. Shawn is drawing inspiration from the beauty in natural elements conflicting with structures.

Greg Penisten is a social pariah from Providence who is interested in the reinvention of discarded objects particularly the details in them and how they mimic natural forms. Think obsessive junk collector with a passion for drawing on things.

Liz Potenza is a glass artist and graduate of Mass art who works at the Glass Center in Pittsburgh. Liz is reclaiming windows and putting her own spin on the broken window theory.
