Zena Ruiz
She's torn between the realms of childhood and motherhood, imagination and reality, and somewhere in between is where her work resides. Her works are deeply influenced by the child that she bore, the child that she didn't bear, and the childhood taken away from her. While the topics have much personal weight, she is mindful of the materials and composition as a means to keep the pieces inviting. She's interested in the works' juxtapositions of playful interactions and imagery vs. serious content that creates dialogues that, for many, would otherwise be silenced.
